How We Help

As a financial institution, we are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our communities in a variety of ways, including:

Funding or Donations

Khalsa Credit Union provides financial support to community based, non-profit and charitable organizations in our communities that align with our values.

Supplies or materials donations

We are determined to support local community groups and foundations that specifically address the immediate concerns of those in need by providing essential items such as medical supplies, food donations and clothing.

Volunteer efforts

KCU is pleased to be affiliated with many groups and organizations. Our employees invests their time and money in various initiatives. We volunteer and play an integral role in fulfilling our mission and are prepared to support the community.

Partnerships

KCU recognizes that not-for-profit organizations and grass-roots community groups play a vital role in building financially healthy communities by providing programs and services that contribute to economic stability, social cohesion and environmental sustainability. KCU will welcome partnerships with other like-minded organizations and groups to leave lasting legacies.

In order to bolster KCU’s support to the non-profit and community sector we offer annual Community Partnership Funds.  Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee carefully reviews each application to ensure that funding decisions are consistent with KCU’s values and principles.

We are committed to contributing to resilient and prosperous communities through local engagement to ensure our immigrant community is able to settle, work, prosper and then contribute to the local community. This shall be accomplished, both by volunteering and taking action in our community. This contributes to economic development and stability. Kirat Karnee.

We are committed to the preservation and promotion of Sikh language, religion and values through taking action in our community with mind, body and soul to ensure that the lessons of our Gurus live on forever. Naam Japna

Environmental Sustainability:

We are committed to enhancing the environmental sustainability in our members’ livesand their communities by being environmentally conscious in our operations.

Eligibility

We support local groups and initiatives that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Registered local charities that provide a direct community benefit
  • Projects or programs in our local communities
  • Projects or programs that primarily align with our areas of focus: mental health, domestic violence and financial literacy.

Please note all donation requests will be reviewed and but only those that align with our values and mission statements will be considered.

All donation requests should be made three (3) months in advance of the date the funds are required.

Helping the homeless

Keeping the homeless warm this weekend

Shelters are critical to helping the homeless, especially during the cold winter months. Over the past few months, Khalsa Credit Union has been visiting homeless shelters throughout Metro Vancouver to provide blankets, mittens, jackets, gloves, toques and other warm clothing.

A Planet We Can All Share

Planting 200+ Trees

In celebration of International Credit Union Day, KCU organized Tree Planting Event in coordination with City of Surrey. Khalsa Credit Union planted 200+ trees at a local park.

Requests where only one or few individuals benefit

Requests for donations specifically for travel

Requests for general operational funding (requests should be project or event based)

Requests where the expectation of the donation is recurring or for operational costs

Requests where the funds are requested payable to an individual

Learn more about our Community Investments:

Khalsa Credit Union's CSR Committee is responsible for the allocation and distribution of the annual donation budget. In 2020 we donated more than $ 300,000 to various local organizations, foundations and schools. Here are the details of the contribution made in the previous years:
